📝STORY SUMMARY
It was well past midnight.
Sophia sat alone in the dimly lit corner of a bar, slowly nursing a glass of whiskey. On the phone, she pleaded with Mike not to leave her. His voice was weary. He said he had to go back to his family... and then the line went dead.
She froze for a moment before hurling her phone onto the floor. Tears came instantly as she broke down, her shoulders trembling uncontrollably. Even the song playing in the bar seemed unbearably cruel.
She wiped away her tears and stumbled out into the cool night.
She wandered aimlessly into a nearly deserted underground pedestrian passage, tears still running down her face. The fluorescent lights buzzed faintly overhead, casting cold reflections across the damp concrete floor.
A homeless man sat against the tunnel wall. He quietly looked up at her with sympathy as she passed.
She continued deeper into the underpass.
Then she heard footsteps behind her.
For a brief moment, she wondered if it was Mike.
